Hardwood changes a room more than almost any other upgrade, and it shows every shortcut. Las Vegas adds its own problem: humidity swings from single digits to seasonal monsoon, and almost every floor here sits on a concrete slab. Wood moves with moisture. We prep the slab, test it, acclimate the material, and lay it so it stays flat and quiet for the life of the floor.

What Las Vegas does to a hardwood floor
Slab moisture
Concrete holds moisture long after it looks dry, and it will destroy a glue bond. We test the slab before we order material, not after the floor cups.
Humidity swings
Indoor humidity here can run from 10% to 50% across a year. Wood expands and contracts with it, so expansion gaps and the right material matter more than in a mild climate.
Engineered vs solid
Over a slab, engineered is usually the better engineering answer, not the cheap one. Solid still has its place on a raised subfloor. We will tell you which your house wants.
Acclimation
Material sits in your house until it matches your conditions. Skipping this is the single most common cause of gaps and cupping, and it is invisible on installation day.
UV fading
Desert sun through big windows will lighten or amber a floor unevenly. Finish choice and species affect how much, and area rugs will leave a mark if the floor is fading underneath.
Dust control
Refinishing makes an enormous amount of dust. We run containment and vacuum-assisted sanders so it does not end up through the whole house.
Five stages, and the first two decide whether the floor lasts
Test the slab
Before we order a single box, the concrete gets a moisture test. This is the step that gets skipped most often and the one that causes the most expensive failures, because a slab can read visually dry and still be releasing enough vapor to break an adhesive bond.
Acclimate the material
The wood sits in your house until it matches your conditions rather than the warehouse’s. In a climate that swings from ten percent humidity to fifty, this is not a formality. Skipping it is the single most common cause of gaps and cupping, and it stays invisible on installation day.
Prepare the subfloor
Grinding high spots, filling low ones and self-leveling where needed. A floor is only as flat as what is underneath it, and hollow spots become the squeaks you hear for the next decade.
Lay it
Glue-down, nail-down or floating depending on the material and the substrate, with expansion gaps sized for a desert climate rather than a default.
Finish and trim
Stairs, nosings, transitions and trim to match, then the finish coats if we are sanding on site. Furniture goes back after cure, not after the last coat.
Hardwood flooring in Las Vegas
Can I put hardwood over a concrete slab?
Yes, and most Las Vegas homes are slab-on-grade. It needs moisture testing and usually a vapor barrier, and engineered flooring is generally the safer choice over slab.
Should I refinish or replace?
If there is enough wear layer left, refinishing costs far less and looks new. Engineered floors with a thin veneer often cannot be sanded more than once, if at all. We measure before advising.
How long does refinishing take?
Usually three to five days for sanding, staining, and coats, plus cure time before furniture goes back. Water-based finishes cure faster than oil.
How much dust does it make?
Less than you fear if it is done right. We use dust-containment sanding and seal off the rest of the house. It is not zero, but it is not the disaster people remember from twenty years ago.
Will the new wood match my existing floor?
Matching an aged floor exactly is difficult because the old wood has ambered. We can get close with stain and blending, and we will show you a sample on your actual floor before committing.
What about pets and scratches?
Harder species and a good finish help, but no floor is scratch-proof. Matte finishes hide wear far better than gloss, which is why most of what we install now is matte or satin.

You hire us, and one contractor runs every trade on the job: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tile, paint. One written price, one schedule, one person to call when you have a question about any of it.

Bonded and insured
Surety bond, general liability insurance and workers compensation on our crews and on every licensed subcontractor we bring onto your property. Certificates on request, sent by the insurer.
Permits in our name
Where the work needs a permit, we pull it in our name and book the inspections. A contractor who asks you to file as an owner-builder is moving the liability onto you.
Changes priced in writing
Anything we find behind a wall gets shown to you, priced, and approved as a written change order before we carry on. Nevada law requires that, and it is also how you avoid an invoice you did not expect.
Finished, then checked
We walk the job with you at the end and stay until your punch list is done rather than ours. We warrant our workmanship, and material warranties pass through to you.
