Our History: Remodeling Las Vegas Homes Since 2004

How a family company built on one idea, that people and property matter, became a contractor Las Vegas homeowners keep calling back.

How we started

2004, and a straightforward idea

Craig Herrmann founded Construction by Mirage in 2004 on the belief that a homeowner’s property deserves real professional care and honest work, priced and scheduled up front, then finished the way it was promised.

Two decades on, that idea still runs the company. We’ve spent those years remodeling and improving homes and condos across the Las Vegas valley: hardwood floors, interior paint, drywall, kitchens, baths, and the whole-home improvements that make a place work better to live in.

We stayed a family company on purpose. It keeps us accountable, keeps the work close, and keeps a real name on every job.

Rooted in the community

“People & Property Matter” doesn’t stop at the front door of a project. The Herrmann family also helped found New Vista, a Nevada nonprofit that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It’s the same conviction that started the company in 2004, carried into the community we build in.

Twenty years of Las Vegas building

The company started in 2004, near the top of a housing boom that was throwing up subdivisions faster than the valley had ever built them. A great deal of what went up in those years was built quickly, and a fair amount of what we are called to fix today was decided in that period.

Then 2008 happened. Plenty of Las Vegas contractors did not come out the other side of it, and the ones that did tended to be the small, low-overhead, reputation-dependent kind. We kept working because people who had used us before called again, which is a slow way to build a business and a durable one.

The interesting consequence is what the valley looks like now. The enormous run of houses built between the mid nineties and 2007 has reached the age where a kitchen, the floors, the water heater and the exterior paint all come due within a few years of each other. That is most of our phone calls.

What we see by build era

Las Vegas housing stock has distinct generations, and each brings its own list

01

Pre-1980

Older wiring, galvanized supply lines that have quietly narrowed, and the occasional popcorn ceiling that should be tested before anyone scrapes it. Often the best-located lots in the valley.

02

1980s to early 1990s

Original kitchens and baths reaching the end of their second life, undersized electrical panels, and bathroom exhaust fans venting into the attic rather than outside.

03

Mid 1990s to 2007

The boom stock, and now the bulk of our work. Builder-grade cabinets and counters at the end of their run, sprayed knockdown texture everywhere, and slabs that need testing before any wood floor goes down.

04

Post-2010

Generally better built. Work here is usually about finishing what the builder left plain: built-ins, upgraded flooring, a better shower, sometimes an addition as the family grows.

05

Condos and high-rises

A separate world with architectural review, sound-rated underlayment requirements and shared plumbing risers. See condo remodeling.

06

Custom homes with basements

Rare here, and most valley crews have never worked below grade. Egress, moisture and ventilation all behave differently underground.
